Maximising Improvement

In our role as framework supplier of Lean support to the UK Highways Agency (HA), Rubicon Wigzell has supported HA supplier Galliford Try in their delivery of a major project to improve the A45/46 Tollbar End.

The HA were keen to support a Lean approach to the project, which forms part of the government programme of investment in infrastructure to help boost the economy. RW were brought in at the earliest stages which meant that we were able to introduce and support collaborative planning during the initial design phase. Both Galliford Try and the designer on the project, Hyder, were at an early stage in their own Lean journeys and keen to use the project to help develop their understanding and internal implementation of Lean. Director Charlie Wigzell led the project for Rubicon Wigzell:

“The A45/46 Toll Bar is an exciting project to be involved in, working closely with the HA and both suppliers we have been able to look at the development of collaborative planning through the design and implementation of the works. The open and visible approach that we have taken together from the outset has also helped to overcome many of the issues familiar to contractors on civils projects. By including the statutory utilities early in the collaborative planning process, the team was able to identify risks together and stabilise the delivery of the programme. While increased understanding and better relationships between all parties didn’t eliminate every issue, it did mean that working together the project kept on programme.”
